How To Play A Flute

Realtones, polyphonic, MP3-what gives? It takes a mastermind to figure out the ringtones system. Here's the straight scoop.

Realtones are the most popular format. They are usually excerpts from favorite songs and are recorded in a high fidelity format, like MP3, AAC or WMA.

Polyphonic are ringtones that play the tune but generally on an electronic music instrument that can play multiple notes at one time-like an electronic organ.

Monophonic are rare but they play only one type of musical tone at a time-like a flute.

A ringtone maker allows you to take the favorite part of your favorite song into a ringtone. Generally there is a charge for the Internet time used on your cell phone.

How about karaoke for your ringtone? The latest is a singtone where you can record your voice to a popular music track, get it "tuned up" and send it to your cell phone as your ringtone. You better be good or it'll be bad.

And then there's the ringback tone. A ringback tone is the ringing you hear on the phone by the calling party after dialing and before your party answers.

My favorite site for hot ringtones top 40 is Billboard.com. I enjoy the ease of seeing what's new and cool and adding it to my phone. I am also a fan of Ringtone.com.

Make sure your ringtone expresses who you are and where you're going. My mobile is an extension of me.
